yarn along - little men and jo's boys

I'm still wending my way through Louisa May Alcott, helped along now by a cozy companion...

I based my HWB cover on these guidelines (inspired by this picture), but left the bottom open so I can wash it. My favorite place to keep a hot water bottle is at my feet, after all, so I figured I should keep my options open.

The bottom stays secure with a couple of buttons, but I think it would be just fine without them, since the edges curve in a bit.

It feels a bit Scandinavian to me, with the red, pink, and white threads, the cross-stitching, and of course, the warmth. It really falls into my favorites category for crochet projects.

And I just love how it matches the pink slippers my future in-laws got me for Christmas. (I feel like I'm walking on a memory foam mattress all the time.)

Linking up with Ginny. Happy Wednesday!

  3. Oh a hot water bottle! I haven't seen one of those since I was a kid. I never thought about how lovely that would be on cold feet on a winter's night! Very cute cover too! makes it more cozy.

  4. I have some rice mittens that I heat up in the microwave then throw into bed before climbing in. I bet this big warmer feels great on your feet!

  5. Hey! I managed to totally miss your engagement thanks to the craziness of Christmas and then I couldn't comment on your post about J's watch. Anyway... eeeeeeeeeeee!!!! SO EXCITING! I just know that your wedding day is going to be super cute.

PS. I love my hot water bottles. Yup. I take two to bed. Our bedroom is freezing cold thanks to the single glazed windows from 1745.

  9. Clair! I LOVE your hot water bottle covers! BEAUTIFUL! Do you sell them?? (I realllyyy wish I knew how to knit!)

My sister and I both just got hot water bottles for Christmas and my aunt ended up getting us covers on Amazon and she was really disappointed.. they were made with cheap-ish fabric and funky designs, but I suppose they do the trick. I'm not too picky hehe

    1. Oh gosh, it would be a dream to make my money by crocheting and selling. =) Unfortunately, I'm pretty slow, so I never have enough inventory to sell.

  11. Hello! This is my first time on your blog, but I am glad that this post was my introduction! I absolutely thing these covers are adorable. I always love jazzing up "ordinary" objects with a creative touch here and there. Makes something as simple as a hot water bottle look personalized and fancy! Great work!
